Basic Information

The Kawasaki city Museum opened in November 1988 and operates on the central theme of ‘The City and the People’. A wide variety of people gather within the urban environment in which they live and work, giving rise to a many new cultures. The City Museum works actively to gather, display, examine and study materials and works that illustrate these urban developments and the cultural movements they give rise to.As part of our approach to the central theme, we focus on posters, photographs, cartoons, movies, videos, and other reproduction art that plays an important role in our daily lives and the creation of modern urban culture, as well as objects connected with the archeology, history, folklore and art of Kawasaki.
In addition, we disseminate information about the museum, producing various programs that allow visitors to study in an enjoyable fashion. Please feel free to visit and participate in upcoming events and we look forward to seeing you soon.
