In 2005 the Kawasaki City Board of Education drew up a ‘Basic Reorganization Plan’ for the City Museum which, while adhering to the basic theme of ‘The City and the People’ that has guided museum activities since its opening, introduced a three-tiered concept to restructure the museum to better suit the changing times.
These new objectives can be summed up as follows: ‘To carry out a broad range of citizen participation activities’, ‘To fulfill its basic roles as both art gallery and museum’, and finally, ‘To promote activities that transmit information about Kawasaki to the rest of the country while raising the museum’s profile among Kawasaki’s citizens’. In order to achieve this, the Kawasaki City Museum will undertake the following in its role as Kawasaki’s cultural administrative institution.
• Promote the creation and development of citizen’s culture
• Collect, preserve and utilize art works, reference materials and other cultural properties.
By carrying out these roles, we hope to increase our popularity and support among the people.
